A good many visitors to this post will have landed here because they’ve just learned that a human foot has washed ashore on Washington state’s Whidbey Island. They want more information about all of the other feet that have emerged in similar cases north of Whidbey Island, so they’ve Googled, Binged or Yahoo’ed and clicked their way here. Good call. Within the pages of this blog, there’s a treasure trove of rich material on this topic.
First, let’s address the Whidbey Island story. So far, the details are scant (consistent with nearly all of the previous cases).
The Daily Herald (Everett) reports that the foot appears to belong to a woman or child and was discovered by someone walking on the beach near Greenbank this morning. This foot was found without a shoe. Investigators estimate it had been in the water less than two months.
The Island County Sheriff’s Office reportedly doesn’t believe the foot is connected to any of the previous cases of human feet that have washed-up in B.C. or northern Puget Sound.
“We’ve never had a foot wash up (here) before,” is the statement attributed to ICSO Detective Ed Wallace in today’s Daily Herald.
The foot is now at the Island County Coroner’s Office. DNA samples will be sent to the state crime lab.
Dating back to June 2008, Beyond90Seconds.com has posted 14 previous stories about the mystery feet. These stories include helpful videos, photos, maps and links.
One of the most-read stories on this blog is Pig video lends insight into B.C. human feet mystery (June 28, 2008). Dare I say it’s a “must read” for anyone with more than a passing interest (and the stomach) for the topic.
