Juliana Redding murder featured on Today Show
First came the Los Angeles Times with some substantive reporting on June 26. People magazine took notice and wrote a recap of the two-year-old murder investigation on July 2. Now, NBC’s Today Show has brought the Juliana Redding murder investigation to a national television morning audience.
Yes, after more than two years of near silence from investigators and the victim’s family, the investigation into Ms. Redding’s murder has, at last, shifted into a lower gear. Although still tight-lipped, investigators seem to feel as if they’ve gained traction on the road to justice.
An arrest. A news release stating that still others could land in custody. A motion stating sensational claims about an alleged business relationship gone bad between a California doctor and Redding’s father.
Yes, those recent events—largely devoid of soundbites—do suggest “traction.”
But what of Kelly Soo Park’s side of the story? To date, we have not heard from the lone suspect. Nor have we heard from Dr. Munir Uwaydah. He’s the man police contend had been in business with Greg Redding until shortly before Ms. Redding’s death.
In a motion (obtained by the LA Times) filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court in late June, the state contended that Dr. Uwaydah had paid Ms. Park hundreds of thousands of dollars over more than two years. Those payments allegedly began three weeks prior to Ms. Redding’s murder in March of 2008 and continued until just days prior to Park’s arrest last month.
Park’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 20. Prosecutors have asked the judge to raise her bail from $1 million to $5 million.
NBC News reporter Jeff Rossen fronted the story on Today this week.
Beyond90Seconds.com has reported on the Redding case several times since the time of the murder. A complete listing of all of those stories can be found here.
